Human expectation is a fragile thing. In the financial markets, a word of doubt or a rumour of loss can be enough to put the whole system of trading in jeopardy. On the hospital ward, a frown on the doctor’s face can re-open the door to fear.

Which is why sounding the voice of hope is like throwing down an anchor. When someone puts their money behind the company they believe in; when the specialist says, ‘I can do this, I can make you better,’ then suddenly we’re not all at sea any more.

Jesus is the King of kings. No economic crisis is outside His sovereign control; no medical condition is beyond His knowledge or capacity to heal. When I rest in His unchanging word, then I can know Him the Prince of Peace, the one who has quelled the storm in my heart (Mk 4:39).

Entrust your ways to Him afresh today. ‘Let God be true, and every man a liar’ (Rom 3:4). Stand on His word, believe His promises, and you will let the voice of hope sound louder in your heart than the winds of alarm and the waves of doubt

Lord, it can be frustrating to be at the mercy of my emotions. But sometimes I just can’t help but feel I’ve lost my way. Thank You that, when there seems to be no way, You just love to step in and unlock the situation. Queller of storms, please keep my emotions on an even keel.

If you can see a way through for someone caught up in their problems, be the voice of hope they need to hear. That might be someone local, but if you want to look further afield, visit the website of a charity you or your church supports, and see how you can be involved.

The Voice Of Hope

As high as the heavens are above the earth,
So high are Your ways to mine.
Ways so perfect they never fail me,
I know You are good all the time!
And through the storm yet I will praise You,
Despite it all, yet I will sing;
Through good or bad, yet I will worship,
For You remain the same King of kings.

You are the voice of hope,
The anchor of my soul.
Where there seems to be no way,
You make it possible.
You are the Prince of Peace,
Amidst adversity
My lips will shout for joy
To You the Most High!

You were the One before time began;
There's nothing beyond Your control.
My confidence, my assurance
Rest in Your unchanging word!

Do We Sing What We Believe?

Throughout history, one of the primary ways in which God's people have learned their faith and expressed their worship has been through song. In the scriptures, God uses singing as a way to teach truths about who He is and what He has done, to comfort His children in times of distress, to warn His people of the dangers of idolatry, and to propel His people to be engaged in the brokenness of the world.

The Wonderful World of Shadow Projection

Shadow Projection could be the best thing to happen to Visual Worship that you've never heard of. Maybe.

Walkdowns describe the bass movement in a song, creating interest and emotion. A “one chord” with the root in the bass makes the listener feel “at home”. But a “one chord” with the third or the fifth in the bass...
