Christian ministry has little time for empire building or power-hoarding - or, at least it shouldn’t. Talk to any church leader working today, and they’ll tell you about the significant impact that generous leaders played in their lives. These were the people who handed over power, who let the young punks take the microphone, who took risks for the sake of the Kingdom and who knew that being a servant leader was more about being a Jesus-directed servant than it was a power-hungry leader.
So, the question for all of us today is this: how do you know when it’s time to step back, to move aside and allow someone else - younger, less talented and with different ideas than you - to take part in leading whatever it is that you’re doing?
Will you do it when it feels right? But what if it never feels right?
Will you wait for your contract to expire? What if God has other plans?
Will you wait until you’ve built things just as perfectly as you ever hope you would do? What if it never was about your skills anyway?
How do you know?
