Psalm 24:7 is a scripture many of us have read before or possibly glanced over it. It says, "Lift up your heads, O gates, and be lifted up, ancient doors, that the King of glory may come in." The first time I read this scripture I thought to myself, "wow, what a pretty picture" even though I wasn't completely sure of the reference or meaning. As I continued to read, meditate, and pray for insight, I began to connect the dots.
Later, I was having a conversation with one of the co-writers on this song and it finally clicked when she happened to mention this verse. When we read Psalm 24 we might be picturing literal gates being lifted and opened but the scripture says just prior "lift up your heads." Which begs us to answer the obvious question... Do gates have heads? No, but people have heads! Perhaps Psalm 24 is an invitation to the people of God and even those who are far off from him. That we would lift our heads, open our hearts, and receive the King of glory!
My song "Lift Oh Gates" is full of language and imagery that speaks of this scripture. One of my favorite lines is "In the name of Jesus, lost return to Father's house." Then the chorus says "Lift oh Gates, open wide, come to life, come to life."
I see this song as a prophetic moment for the Church. It's a declaration to the body of Christ and to those who are far from God to come near and receive salvation. When we open our hearts to receive the King of Glory, we begin to see a change. The second chorus of the song says, "Lamb of God, crucified, the warrior is alive, come to life!". Psalm 24:8 tells us the Lord is strong and mighty. He is mighty in battle. He is a Warrior!
Be encouraged today and take a moment to dive into this scripture and let the Holy Spirit speak to you. As the Body of Christ, we have the ability to sing, pray, and declare that hearts will be opened wide to the King of Glory and that He will be seen, known, and worshipped.
