“By His divine power, God has given us everything we need for living a godly life. We have received all of this by coming to know Him, the one who called us to Himself by means of His marvelous glory and excellence.” (2 Peter 1:3, NLT)

Do you ever feel like you just don’t have what it takes? Maybe you’re facing an overwhelming project at work, and you feel ill-equipped to handle it. Maybe you’re expecting your first child, and you don’t feel qualified for impending parenthood. Or maybe you feel like you don’t have enough time or expertise or energy to tackle your to-do list today.

The world constantly tries to tell us we aren’t enough, and it takes a lot of faith to fight against that. Satan loves to make us believe there’s something missing in our toolbox — one character trait we can’t master, one resource we can’t access, one sin we can’t overcome. But the Bible begs to differ. God’s Word tells us we have everything we need to live a godly life. All of our needs are supplied in Christ. Yes, in our flesh, we are weak, but God makes up for every area in our lives where we fall short.

That’s why there’s no shame in weakness. In fact, the Bible encourages us to boast in our weakness. 2 Corinthians 12:9 (NIV) says, “But He said to me, ‘My grace is sufficient for you, for My power is made perfect in weakness.’ Therefore, I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ’s power may rest on me.”

My feet may fail me / My hands may shake / My life may crumble / My heart may break / But through the darkness / You are the light / I know forever / You hold my life

Every failure, every heartbreak, every broken dream is an opportunity for God to shine. And that gives us great reason to boast. We can confidently give God glory in our weakness because we know where our strength comes from. It certainly doesn’t come from us

Paul says it best in 2 Corinthians as he continues, “That is why, for Christ’s sake, I delight in weakness, in insults, in hardships, in persecutions, in difficulties. For when I am weak, then I am strong” (v. 10, NIV).

He is constant in the trial and faithful through the night. He is everything we need. May we boast in His great strength.
